Date # 58 & 59: Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken; Uncle Cheffy

For Tumblr Dashboard Viewers, click on thumbnails to enlarge.

This is going to be a joint entry featuring two restaurants we dined in separately, since I think that we were only able to sample a few items from both of them.

The first restaurant I will discuss is Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken, a truly great find. Peri-Peri Chicken makes use of African Birds Eye Chili, a spice that the Portugese discovered back in the age of exploration.

Peri-Peri’s ambiance is calm and cozy, perfect for casual dates.

Both of us ordered a Chicken Combo B (P210) which is composed of 1/2 Chicken, gravy and rice. Do note that they trim some fat off the chicken, to prevent you from getting extra cholesterol. Nevertheless, even without the extra fat, the chicken was succulent and juicy, even on the white meat parts. The charcoal style of grilling gave it an extra smoky taste, and the Peri-peri spice was evident all throughout the chicken.

It was quite a steal for P210.

The best part about Peri-Peri Charcoal chicken is that if you add P45 to your Chicken Combo Meal, you will have access to unlimited drinks and unlimited soup. The soup being offered that day was corn soup, which was thick and yummy, and the selection of drinks were expansive, from juices, sodas, and even coffee.

Overall Verdict: Peri-Peri chicken is one of the most sulit restaurants we’ve been to so far. It also offers very good chicken, perfect for anyone who would like to eat delicious chicken sans the oiliness.

For our second feature for this post, we’ll head over to Eastwood City’s Uncle Cheffy Brick Oven BBQ.  We’ve visited this place once before, and we were instantly charmed by the quality of the food it offered.

This time around, we stayed in the al fresco area since it was raining that day and we wanted to take advantage of the cool breeze.

Our Panizza was split into two flavors. Our first was the All Meat BBQ Panizza (P225/half), which we think is the best panizza in the house because the sweetness of the meat contrasts so well with the vegetables. Again, drizzle a little olive oil on top of the veggies before rolling it up for an extra layer of flavor.

The other half of our panizza was Larry’s Craving (P247) which was composed of shiitake mushrooms, smoked salmon, escargot and onions. Try this if you want something unique, but I’d rather really go to the bbq flavor since the flavors complemented one another better.

This is a pretty weird Creme Brulee (P95) since it had a layer of sweet potato at the very bottom. Douglas said he would have preferred it without the extra layer of potato.

   I commend the beautiful plating.

Overall Verdict: I still maintain that I think Uncle Cheffy is one of the best restaurants in the area. They have everything awesome: panizza, steak, pot roast, lechon, etc. Its only downside for couples is that their large servings don’t allow you to order too many dishes, so choose wisely.
