Date # 60: Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza

For Tumblr Dashboard Viewers, click on the thumbnails to enlarge.

Sorry for the slow updates lately. The last few weeks of March really took a toll on us because of school. But we’re happy to announce that we’re finally seniors now! *cue happy dance* I can’t believe that I will graduate from college a year from now. :( (Douglas still has two years though, since he shifted).

We went to school today because Douglas had to register for the summer sem. We took this chance to finally visit the new restaurant along Katipunan, Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza, from the same folks who brought us Cello’s. It’s located on top of Mercury Drugstore. It specializes on, well—pizza. But not just any kind of pizza.

Gino’s prepares their pizza the traditional way, by making use of a brick oven. Moreover, they believe that good pizza needs to be the following: “balanced, made with quality ingredients, crispy, chewy, and slightly charred.” I, for one, share the same philosophy, and so I knew I had to check this restaurant out.

The place exudes a calm, casual aura. I think it would make a good hang out place with friends since it’s serene and quiet.

We ordered a pitcher of Iced Tea (P120) which had a unique calamansi twist. It can serve up to four glasses.

On to the pizza. We got ourselves a Prosciutto Pizza (P400). Long story short, it was excellent. It truly lived up to our expectations. The crust was thin and chewy, but had a slightly bitter taste due to the charred edges. The sauce had the right flavor you’d expect from Italian tomatoes. There was also a substantial amount of prosciutto on the pizza.

I was happy that the arugula was not as bitter as I had expected them to be; instead, they complemented the prosciutto wonderfully.

One of the winning factors was the homemade cheese which really perked up the taste of the entire thing.

They also have other flavors, such as Magherita, Bianca Verde, Four Cheese, Pepperoni and Buffalo Chicken. As of now, these are the only things on their menu.

One of the owners asked us to try this Choco Almond Dessert (P120). It’s basically made up of sweetened dark chocolate sandwiched in between two cookies, topped with almonds and sugar.

Douglas truly liked the chocolate, and I have to agree that it was good (which is a big thing, since if you know me, you’d know that I don’t like chocolate). It wasn’t too strong since the cookies were able to balance out the overall taste.

They also offer Nutella Pizza which we weren’t able to try. Next time! :)

Overall Verdict: This is the most interesting restaurant in Katipunan thus far. It’s also one of the few restos I think is worth going to even if you’re not from the area. The food is noteworthy and the prices are reasonable.
