Date # 53: Bellissimo

Bellissimo is a tiny, cozy and romantic Italian Restaurant along Tomas Morato. It is owned by Filipino actor Cesar Montano. On a lucky day, maybe you’ll get to catch him there. On a regular day, though, I suggest you go there for the pizza.

The restaurant offers a selection of wines, although Douglas and I didn’t get to try them because we don’t drink.

This picture pretty much sums up the entire space of the restaurant. It’s very small, but it has a very romantic feel to it.

They serve warm (but not freshly baked) bread sticks before the big meal.

You can dip the bread sticks in these sauces. I really liked them.

The Carbonara al Pollo (P298) was a treat. It uses more eggs rather than cream so the viscosity and taste of the sauce is a bit different than that of the usual carbonara. The noodles were perfectly al dente and absorbed the sauce well. I wish they had more interesting “sahog”, though, rather than the usual store-bought ham and button mushrooms.

The serving is good for 2-3 persons.

Bleu cheese is my new favorite thing so I ordered a Gorgonzola Pizza (P360) for us to share. The pizza was bigger than what other Italian restaurants normally serve. The crust was done well—thin and chewy, not too heavy to eat. You can really taste the presence of gorgonzola cheese in the pizza. I have to admit, though, that gorgonzola is not for everyone—don’t order this if you’re not fond of that kind of cheese.

My only beef (and it really turned me down) with Bellissimo’s pizza is that they don’t allow you to split the flavor of the pizza into two so you get to try a bigger variety. I guess it’s their way of making you order more.

The Verdict: Bellissimo is perfect for romantic dates. The price is mid-range (300-400/order), which I think is just right for this kind of food. It’s not the best Italian restaurant out there, but it ranks high in my scale. I highly recommend it.
