Date # 55: Gravy Fix

For Tumblr Dashboard Viewers, Click on the thumbnails to enlarge.

Gravy Fix is the newest restaurant to open in Katipunan Ave. It’s located right beside Flaming Wings, which is incidentally its sister restaurant. Gravy Fix specializes on different kinds of gravy to suit anyone’s hankering for saucy goodness.

The place is taking off really well during its opening month, garnering plenty of visits from students from the nearby schools. The price range is obviously targeted towards the student crowd, with most of the things on the menu ranging from 100-150 pesos.

The place can get very noisy during peak hours, so it’s not ideal for hanging out but perfect for quick lunch dates :D

The Soup of the Day (P50) for the day we visited was Clam Soup. It’s not chowder because it’s a bit watery in consistency, but it was nevertheless flavorful. It was served warm, but cooled quickly. There were plenty of clams and fillers in the soup.

Of course I had to try their gravy, so I got a Fried Porkchop Meal (P120). The meal came with a drink, rice and buttered vegetables. We have tried all of the variants of their gravy, and so far our favorites were the Cajun Gravy (not very spicy, dont worry) one and the sweet Mang Tomas inspired Juan dela Sauce Gravy. The porkchop was tender and easy to slice.

The Penne Marinara w/ Vodka (P110) is similar to the pastas we can get from Flaming Wings, but this one has an added punch from the vodka. The noodles were perfectly al dente. The serving is big enough for one hungry person.

We also got a Smores (P90) inspired dessert, which is basically composed of two large marshmallows sitting on top of vanilla ice cream on a bed of crushed graham drizzled with chocolate syrup. Nyum.

We went there again that same week to try more of their offerings. This time around, we had Squash and Apple Soup (P50). It’s the average squash soup, and I didn’t distinctly taste the apple, which was what I was looking for.

The second time, I got a Whiz Steak (P115) which is basically a cheese steak with cheese whiz and onion sauce inside a baguette. It’s served with sweet potato chips.

I really, really liked this one because of the generous amount of sauce oozing from the sandwich. It also has a lot of meat inside, despite its price.

Douglas got a Fried Chicken Meal (P120). I think he really enjoyed this very much, being the sauce monster that he is (he used up four bowls of gravy!). He complained that the vegetables were soggy, though.
Overall Verdict: We understand why Gravy Fix is taking off really well, because it offers tasty and affordable food. I’d like to see new additions to their menu, though. They only have three choices for dishes that use gravy (porkchop, chicken, salisbury steak) as of the moment. I also hope they keep the price range to its current level.
